New Series + Athlete Intro!
A few weeks ago I took a poll, asking you what you’d like to see documented in my next series of blog posts. The overwhelming response was to feature a willing athlete of mine, and document his/her training journey. So, I found a willing participant to be featured over the next several months! Without further ado, let’s go ahead and get him introduced!
Meet Kelly D.
Kelly has been one of my athletes since late 2019. He found me through a series of email communications first with Joe Friel, who forwarded his information on to Ryan Bolton of Bolton Endurance Sports Training, which in turn forwarded him on to me as he thought the two of us would be a great fit. And I must say, we have! It’s been super fun working with Kelly over the past few years because Kelly really and truly makes my job fun. He is excited about his workouts, he trusts the process, he takes initiative to learn about the sport he is in, and is a really decent human. As you can imagine, his last few years of racing have been spotty since 2020 started the years of lockdown and limited racing, but he is raring to go this year.
Kelly’s background is quite diverse, from ice hockey to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Several years ago his wife, Tee, took up running which inspired him to do the same. After completing a half marathon, and then a marathon, he decided to turn to triathlon for another challenge. And that is what brings us to now! Last year he completed his first 70.3 in Santa Cruz and was scheduled to do his first Ironman in Sacramento, but we all know how that turned out, with crazy flooding and an ultimately last minute race cancellation. So, his sights are back on Ironman California again this year.
The Details
Over the course of the next few months, I’ll be documenting some of Kelly’s training along with the purpose behind it. Since it is already June, we are finishing up Base Phase training. In the next post I’ll give you a recap of how that went and then we’ll move on to start documenting current training.
